Kyle McRae

Kyle McRae has been working in the IT industry since 2017. In that time, they have held various roles in different companies. In 2017, they worked as a Systems Technician at Stevensville Garden Gallery where they provided problem determination, incident resolution, and remote administration for desktop hardware, operating systems, applications, printers, and POS devices for internal staff. Kyle also authored VBA scripts and macros for use with Microsoft Office Excel to automate tasks for users.

In 2018, they moved to Skycomp Solutions Inc. where they worked as a Project / Automation Specialist. In this role, they developed, deployed, and migrated to a variety of system and network services for clients including server migrations (Windows / Linux), firewall implementations, backup solutions, and email migrations to Microsoft 365. Kyle also provided system administration for clients across Niagara region including both Windows Server (up to and including Server 2019) and Linux operating systems.

In 2020, they joined Vretta Inc. as a Cloud Operations Developer. In this role, they functioned as an administrator of cloud services, primarily AWS. Kyle oversaw and improved various processes and workflows relating to security and backups. Kyle also performed user onboard / offboard procedures and worked closely with developers to introduce them to the tech stack.

Currently, Kyle is working at Weever as a DevOps Developer. In this role, they have migrated Kubernetes AWS infrastructure (EKS) deployed through third party utility to Terraform Infrastructure-As-Code solution. Kyle has also strategized and completed migration from older Postgres database solution to AWS RDS Aurora complete with database sync, scheduled outage and cutover. Kyle has implemented a complete backup solution using Terraform and AWS Backup for AWS RDS complete with daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and indefinite retention plans. Kyle is also performing database (AWS RDS) administration and troubleshooting, investigating and tracing alerts to root causes using AWS Performance Insights and Enhanced Monitoring analyses, and ensuring the database is properly sized. Kyle is also improving and developing CI/CD solutions for deploying updates to SaaS applications using Github Actions, Drone.

Kyle McRae attended Niagara College from 2016 to 2018, where they earned a Diploma in Computer Systems Technician - Network and Cloud Technologies. Kyle also holds certifications from Microsoft, including Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals and Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator: Associate. Additionally, they hold certifications from CompTIA, including CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+, which they obtained in 2018.
