It takes a village to raise a child. And right now, that village needs rebuilding.

Across the UK, children’s life satisfaction has been declining for over a decade. In our town we're seeing huge rises in anxiety, depression and NHS referrals.  Something isn’t working. We’re seeing a quiet but growing crisis in childhood.

- Local headteachers describe schools becoming the fourth emergency service
- Parents are navigating increasing complexity
- Children are feeling more isolated, more anxious, and less resilient than ever before

This isn’t down to one single cause. It’s the result of multiple shifts happening at once:
- More time spent in digital environments and less real-world connection 
- Fewer community spaces and opportunities for children
- Increasing pressure, uncertainty, and social comparison

At its core, something fundamental has been weakened: the everyday human connections that children need to thrive.

Research proves that children do better when they feel connected to family, friends, schools, and their community.

In places where communities are more connected, children report higher wellbeing.  Where connection is weaker, outcomes are worse, regardless of wealth. That means this isn’t just a national issue but a local opportunity.

Well Windsor is a local charity and growing movement bringing people together to support children’s mental wellbeing.

This is not something any one organisation can solve alone. If it really takes a village, then this belongs to all of us.
