Steve Hughes

Senior Strategist (political Education & International Engagement) at Working Families Party

Steve Hughes is a seasoned political strategist with extensive experience in grassroots organizing and political education. Currently serving as a Senior Strategist at the Working Families Party since January 2020, Steve coordinates strategic alignment across a political organization with over 100 staff and develops educational curricula to support the third-party political movement in the U.S. Previous roles include Network Coordinator at the European Community Organizing Network and Senior Strategist at the Grassroots Power Project, where Steve enhanced organizational capacity through strategic accompaniment and leadership identification. As the State Director of the Oregon Working Families Party, Steve oversaw grassroots development and community organizing efforts. Earlier, Steve worked as a Union Organizer for AFSCME and was deeply involved in activism, notably participating in the protests against the 1999 WTO meeting in Seattle. Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from The Evergreen State College.
