What the Fed? is a UW–Madison student-led civic engagement initiative that helps voters better understand government policy in an era of polarization and information overload. Using AI, it analyzes primary legislative sources such as federal bills and congressional records and presents clear, op-ed style explanations from multiple political perspectives. Rather than offering a single neutral summary, the platform shows how different sides reason about an issue and highlights the values, evidence, and trade-offs behind competing views. Grounded in Wisconsin’s tradition of sifting and winnowing and guided by student oversight, it aims to equip voters with the clarity and confidence to form their own informed opinions.
