Retired at the age of 40 to devote himself to social causes in the last 20 years, Professor Jack Sim founded the World Toilet Organisation, breaking the global taboo on the need for proper sanitation and access to toilets. This has led to the establishment of UN World Toilet Day on 19 November.

Also founder of Base of the Pyramid (BoP) Hub, an entity that aims to support businesses with the goal of ending global poverty. He is a Schwab Fellow of the World Economic Forum and Ashoka Global Fellow. The Prime Minister of Samoa has also recognised him as a Tuifalevao, a Samoan village chief title.

Within Singapore, Professor Jack Sim is a fellow at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and adjunct at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
