Why Desert is Desert is an architectural visualization studio founded by Marco Germi, architect and filmmaker, and Ayla Schiappacasse, PhD in architecture.

Their work weaves cinematic narratives that explore the intersections of architecture, design, the built environment, and the individuals who shape them. With a distinct visual language, they delve into the spaces within, between, and around buildings, revealing the often-invisible layers that define how architecture is conceived, constructed, and lived.

More than documenting structures, Why Desert is Desert focuses on the visionaries behind the visible form—designers, builders, and inhabitants—bringing forward the temporal, emotional, and relational dimensions of architecture. Their practice moves between visual art and architectural research, offering a sensitive and reflective lens on the complexity of space and human presence.
