Cowan's roles ranged from Commercial Manager to Head of Legal and Commercial, showcasing their expertise in commercial agreements, divestment processes, and collaborative partnerships in sectors such as software, health, and defense.

James Cowan attended Trinity School from 1986 to 1992. James then went on to study Economics and Business Management at Newcastle University from 1992 to 1996, graduating with a BA Joint Hons 2:1 degree.
