Prior to this role, they held various editorial positions at Wiley VCH from 2009 to 2021, including Senior Associate Editor, Associate Editor, and Assistant Editor. Katja earned a Doctor's Degree in Organic Chemistry, magna cum laude, from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen from 2000 to 2008 and completed their Abitur at Gymnasium Bad Essen between 1993 and 2000. They are also a mother of three.
