Richard Schmidt is a PhD student and professional Olympic athlete in rowing, currently studying hydrogen and hydrogen storage as a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at Wasserstofftechnik. From 2006 to 2022, Richard served in the Bundeswehr, representing Germany in various rowing competitions, including the Olympics, where they won an Olympic gold in 2012 and silver in 2016. Richard continues to be involved in the rowing community as the elected athlete spokesman for Deutscher Ruderverband e.V. and has also held roles in project management and research related to hydrogen at the Wilo Group. Richard represented Germany on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Athletes Committee from 2017 to 2020, highlighting their commitment to fair sportsmanship. Richard holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Technische Universität Dortmund and a degree in Energietechnik from Westfälische Hochschule Gelsenkirchen.
