Richard Smith has a long work history, beginning in 2007 when they were a Team Chief for the Minnesota National Guard. In 2009, they joined the U.S. Army as a Communication and Electronics Maintenance Shop Communication NCOIC. In 2010, they moved back to the Minnesota National Guard as a Communications Training NCO. In 2012, they took a job as a Computer Technician for the Cameron School District. Finally, in 2013, they joined WIN Technology as a Network Management Technician, then worked their way up to Senior NMC Manager.

Richard Smith has a diverse educational background. Richard began their educational journey in 2003 when they obtained a Signal Systems Support Specialist (25U) degree from the School of Information Technology, with a focus on Radio technologies. In 2010, they earned an Information Technology Specialist (25B) degree from the Professional Education Center, with a focus on Information Technology. Richard then attended Northwood Technical College from 2011 to 2013, where they earned an Information Technology - Networking Specialist degree, with a focus on System, Networking, and LAN/WAN Management/Manager. Currently, Richard is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Richard also holds a certification from Trailhead by Salesforce.
