Andreas Schmid

Andreas Schmid has a diverse work experience in the field of spray and combustion research for large 2-stroke marine diesel engines. Andreas started their career as an intern at DAF Trucks NV in 2004. Andreas then pursued a PhD at ETH Zurich, focusing on investigating the spray morphology of an outwards opening, piezo activated hollow cone injector, as well as the ignition behavior of different fuels.

In 2011, Andreas joined Wärtsilä as a Spray and Combustion Research Scientist, where they were responsible for the development and management of the Spray Combustion Chamber (SCC), a unique constant volume chamber representing the thermodynamic conditions of large marine diesel engines. During their time at Wärtsilä, they also worked on project evaluation, tool development, and reporting/publishing of results.

Andreas continued their career at WinGD – Winterthur Gas & Diesel, where they held various roles. Andreas first served as a Spray and Combustion Research Scientist, similar to their previous role at Wärtsilä, from 2011 to 2015. Subsequently, they became the Team Leader for Future Technologies in 2016, overseeing the development of new technologies. In 2018, they took on the role of Team Leader for the Task Force, before being promoted to the position of General Manager of Technology Development in May 2020.

Andreas Schmid's education history comprises a Doctor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, which they obtained from ETH Zürich between 2007 and 2012. Prior to that, they completed a Dipl. Masch. Ing. ETH (Master of Science) in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zürich, from 2001 to 2006. Andreas'seducational journey started at Kollegium Spiritus Sanctus Brig, where they obtained an Abitur (A-levels) degree in Typus C (Mathematical) from 1995 to 2001.

In addition to their academic achievements, Andreas Schmid has also obtained several certifications. Andreas earned a certificate in Analytics in Python from Columbia University in the City of New York in December 2019. In December 2018, they obtained a Certificate of Achievement in Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the same institution. Furthermore, they have a certification in Leadership in 21st Century Organizations, obtained from Coursera. The specific dates for the Leadership certification are not provided.
