William Newton has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. William started their career as an intern at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2004. William then went on to work as an intern at The Aspen Institute in 2006. In 2008, they worked as a Research Associate at Business Executives for National Security. William later joined McKinsey & Company as a Business Analyst in 2009. In 2011, they became a Senior Policy Advisor at Cabinet Office, where they stayed until 2013. From 2014 to 2015, they served as a Senior Policy Advisor at 10 Downing Street. Starting in 2015, they worked for WiredScore, first as the UK Director from 2015 to 2016, then as the EMEA Director from 2016 to 2017, and currently as the President & MD. At WiredScore, they helped develop Wired Certification, a system that simplifies internet service and other connectivity technologies for businesses and individuals.

William Newton attended The University of Edinburgh from 2005 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Philosophy. Additionally, in 2007 to 2008, they briefly studied at Georgetown University, although no specific degree or field of study was mentioned.
