James Havers

VP, Content at Wise Publishing

James Havers is the current Vice President of Content at Wise Publishing. Prior to this, they worked at Microsoft for 14 years, where they led the homepage for one of Canada's leading news sites (MSN.ca).

During their time at Microsoft, James was responsible for hosting daily news meetings to assess what was happening in the world and ensure it was represented on the homepage. This required data analysis to be presented, including daily page views, click-through rate (CTR), Google trends, Twitter trends, Facebook insights, Chartbeat tooling as well as Omniture insights. Notes were taken and a schedule sent out daily with instructions for editorial placement throughout the homepage and newsletter.

In addition, James worked with News, Sports, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Finance and other channel leads and freelancers to ensure their key performance indicators (KPIs) were being achieved. To overcome any roadblocks, data analysis would be conducted to strategize how to best meet their targets. Met with the sales team regularly to ensure their targets were being met and conceptualized innovative ways to help drive more revenue for the organization.

James was also tasked with driving innovation throughout the organization, seizing on data analysis to drive higher KPIs and shared this with other Microsoft News affiliates internationally. James was instrumental in driving over 1 billion pageviews annually, a click-through rate of over 50% as well as helping a substantial revenue target to be met every year.

James Havers' educational career includes completing a Bachelor of Honours in James'story and Political Science from the University of Waterloo. James also has a certification from LinkedIn in Writing Headlines.
