Ronan Long

Nippon Foundation Professorial Chair law of the Sea and Ocean Governance

Ronan Long is currently the Nippon Foundation Professorial Chair in Law of the Sea and Ocean Governance at the World Maritime University and serves as the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law at the National University of Ireland Galway. Previously, Long was a Professor at NUIG from 2002 to 2014 and worked as a Permanent Staff Member for the European Commission from 1993 to 2002, where they provided legal advice and negotiated international agreements. Long also served as a Naval Officer in the Naval Service from 1981 to 1993, holding various staff appointments. They earned a Doctor of Philosophy in European Union Law, International Law, Law of the Sea, and International Fisheries Law from the School of Law at Trinity College Dublin between 1994 and 1998.
