James Marcil has worked in the software engineering field since 2014. James began their career as a Programmer Co-op at 1st Playable Productions, where they contributed to the development of a research game using ActionScript 3 and Flash, and ported the game from Flash to HTML5 using OpenFL and Haxe. James also playtested and documented bugs in various titles. In 2015, they returned to 1st Playable Productions as a Programmer Co-op, where they developed educational games for Pearson using OpenFL, Haxe, and JavaScript, and playtested and documented bugs in various titles. In 2016, they were promoted to Programmer at 1st Playable Productions, where they contributed to thirteen shipped games and applications across multiple platforms, and designed, implemented, and documented gameplay systems and features. In 2019, they moved to McFarland Technology Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer, where they were the lead programmer on a team developing simulation software using Unity, C#, and C++, and implemented new features and fixed bugs in an application developed using CRYENGINE and C#. In 2021, they joined Wolfjaw Studios as a Senior Software Engineer and Software Engineer, where they implemented new features and fixed bugs in an application developed using WPF and C#.

James Marcil attended Rochester Institute of Technology from 2011 to 2016, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Game Design and Development and Computer Science.
