Marleen Schutter

Scientist and Team Lead, Governance and Policy

Marleen Schutter is a scientist currently working as an Adjunct Professor at the Marine Affairs Program (MAP) where they focus on policy and governance challenges at the intersection of food systems, oceans, and climate. They previously served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at WorldFish, conducting research on blue economy policy, development, equity, and justice. Marleen led a research project with the Cayman Islands Department of Environment, assessing the cultural and recreational value of the marine environment while contributing to marine protected area assessments. Their academic foundation includes a PhD in Environmental Science from Lancaster University and a Master of Science in Environment and Resource Management from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where they graduated cum laude.
