August Thoma is a highly experienced music professional with a career spanning several decades. Currently serving as the Music Director and Conductor for the Sanibel BIG ARTS Concert Band since June 2020, August has also held the position of Tour Director/Course Leader with WorldStrides since April 2008. Previous roles include Director of Music Ministry at St. John Fisher University Parish from November 1978 to June 2014, Director of Bands and Adjunct Instructor of Music at Rochester College from August 1983 to April 2014, and Lecturer in Music Education at Oakland University from January 2001 to April 2008. Additional experience includes teaching positions in various school districts and summer camp leadership roles. August holds a Master of Music from Oakland University and two degrees from Michigan State University: a B.M. in Music Education and a B.A. in Music Literature.
