Ian Sowden has worked in the software development industry since 1997. Ian began their career as a Scholar at the CSIRO Mathematics and Information Sciences in 1997. In 1999, they joined Atmosphere Networks as a Software Engineer, where they developed embedded software for an ATM over SONET product. In 2000, they began working at Altamar Networks as a Software Engineer, where they were a key contributor to the software development for a large scale distributed OEO carrier class switch. Also in 2000, they joined Ditech Networks as a Technical Lead/Sr. Software Engineer/Software Architect, where they designed and developed highly reliable carrier class software for various products deployed to carriers in the US and internationally. In 2012, they joined Nuance Communications as a Sr. Principal Software Engineer. Finally, in 2015, they became the Software Development Director and Senior Software Engineer at Wrightspeed.
Ian Sowden completed a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) (Hons) in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from The University of Western Australia between 1994 and 1998. During the same time period, they also obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) in Business/Commerce, General from The University of Western Australia. No additional certifications were obtained.
