Matthew H.

Matthew H. has a diverse work experience in various planning and research roles. Matthew is currently serving as the Director of Planning & Research at WTB (Wilderness Trail Bikes) - TAM, an organization focused on bikeway design in Marin County. In this role, Matthew brings skills in planning, policy analysis, lobbying, community organizing, research, GIS, data analysis, and mapping to navigate the largest injection of active transportation funds at the State and Federal levels in history.

Prior to their current position, Matthew worked as an Urban Planner, Writer, and Cartographer, providing analysis, writing, translation, infographics, and maps for international clients. Matthew also wrote a series of articles on urban topics, including lessons for urban planners in China and the US.

Matthew has also worked as a Planning Consultant at the UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies, where they produced deliverables for organizations like the Urban Land Institute and Los Angeles Metro. Their work included studying density in LA County and analyzing municipal zoning codes.

Additionally, Matthew served as an Editorial Advisor for the American Planning Association, contributing to the China Special Report and being featured in a profile and interview. Matthew has also translated an essay on Chinese philosophy and planning.

At the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, Matthew took on several roles, including Program Facilitator, GIS Instructor, and Graduate Planning Consultant. In these positions, they conducted analysis and research, evaluated zoning codes, and presented designs and zoning amendments to city planners.

Matthew's experience also includes an internship at the Chengdu Institute of Planning & Design, where they calculated and mapped urban design metrics and presented their findings to Chinese planners and government officials. Matthew has demonstrated an ability to work and collaborate in diverse cultural and language environments.

Before their work in planning and research, Matthew worked as an Operations Manager at Zouba Tours and as a Social Studies Teacher at the Yunnan Province Department of Education. Matthew also gained experience as a Transportation Data Collector at Dave Reed Traffic and as a Transit Planning Intern at the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit.

Matthew H. completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History at Harvard University from 2001 to 2005. Later on, Matthew earned a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) with a field of study in City/Urban, Community, and Regional Planning from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, attending from 2016 to 2018.
