Mel Carlock has extensive experience in the broadcasting industry, currently serving as an Assignment Editor at WTVA/WLOV/ABC-WTVA since 1989, where responsibility includes overseeing news story assignments for a team covering 26 counties in North and East Mississippi and West Alabama, along with managing content for the award-winning WTVA website and smartphone app. Prior experience includes working as a Director and Production Assistant at WVSB-TV from 1987 to 1989, focusing on producing television commercials and local programs, and as an On-Air Personality and Sports Color Commentator at WNJC-FM from 1981 to 1984, where initial duties included gathering football scores and providing on-air news and sports coverage. Mel Carlock holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Radio/Television/Film from The University of Southern Mississippi and an Associate’s Degree in Oral Communications from Northwest Mississippi Community College, complemented by a Scientific Diploma from Harding Academy.
