David Paul is the Chief Meteorologist for WTVY. David hails from the small town of Chadwick in Northwest Illinois. From early childhood he had a fascination with weather that led him to a career in meteorology. In third grade he would actually “perform” weathercasts in front of his classmates using a large, pull-down map of the United States! After graduating high school in 1993, he pursued his meteorology degree and graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1997.
David began his career at KTVO-TV in Kirksville, MO, in July 1997. A year later he moved to KIMT-TV in Mason City, IA, where he served as the station’s morning and noon meteorologist. In 2000 David moved on to WQAD-TV in Moline, IL, serving as weekend meteorologist until September 2005. Before coming to Dothan, David spent 10 years in Lafayette, LA, as Chief Meteorologist where he had the opportunity to fulfill a career goal – covering hurricanes and tropical storms from the area of impact and keeping viewers informed of the latest developments. He received the AMS (American Meteorological Society) Seal of Approval for his weathercasts in 2000 and the upgraded CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) designation from the AMS in 2006.
When he’s not working David enjoys he’s spending time with his wife and two daughters. David also enjoys home improvement projects, hitting the gym, and playing or watching sports.
