Joss Steward has a diverse work experience spanning over 14 years. They started their career in 2008 as a Systems Administrator at Grace Academy, where they were responsible for maintaining and upgrading network hardware and software.
In 2012, Joss worked as a Software Engineer intern at Volvo Group Trucks Technology, where they developed software to support research and engineering in the Product Development Laboratory. They also created an ASP.Net website and data gathering software for monitoring heavy-duty diesel engine testing equipment.
During the same time at Messiah College, Joss volunteered as an Embedded Software Engineer, developing software in C for a solar-powered device that monitored and reported on well utilization in rural areas.
In 2016, Joss joined First Data Corporation as a part-time Software Engineer, primarily working with Java and Visual Basic for maintaining financial systems.
Joss then moved on to Saft in 2017 as an Embedded Software Engineer, focusing on developing control systems for lithium-ion batteries. They updated existing desktop applications and created new ones for debugging and testing products.
From 2019 to 2021, Joss worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a System Development Engineer 2. They were responsible for maintaining and improving email services for Amazon, AWS, and subsidiaries, including anti-spam and security appliances, mail transfer agents, list servers, and monitoring infrastructure.
In 2021, Joss joined Tanium as a Senior Software Engineer, where they maintained legacy plugin modules using Node.js, Python, and Bash.
Currently, Joss holds the position of Senior Software Engineer at Wurl, starting in 2022.
Joss Steward began their education at Grace Academy, where they obtained a High School Diploma in 2012. Following that, they attended Hagerstown Community College from 2010 to 2012, but did not earn a degree or pursue a specific field of study during this time. In 2012, they briefly attended Messiah University, again without earning a degree, but had a focus on Engineering. Their main educational achievement came from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, where they pursued a Bachelors of Software Engineering from 2013 to 2016. During their time at Shippensburg University, they received additional certifications such as the Guru Award and the Miklausen-Likar Science Research Award in 2014. They also obtained the Secure C/C++ Coding Course certificate from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018. Prior to their college education, Joss obtained the CompTIA Network+ certification in 2009 and an Amateur Radio License from the Federal Communications Commission in 2008.
