Xako Publication is a translation-focused publishing house based in Assam — one of the smallest towns to house one of the most urgent literary missions in the country.

We exist because Northeast India's literature deserves the world's attention.

Despite being home to one of the most linguistically and culturally rich regions on earth — with dozens of living languages, centuries of oral tradition, and a written literary heritage of extraordinary depth — Northeast India remains vastly underrepresented in the national and global publishing conversation. The stories are here. The voices are here. What has been missing is a bridge.

Xako Publication is that bridge.

Through careful, committed literary translation, we carry the literature of the Northeast outward — into Hindi, English, Bengali, and other Indian and global languages — and bring the best of world and vernacular literature back to readers in the region. We work across genres: literary fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and beyond.

But we are more than a publishing house. We are building an ecosystem.

Through workshops, residencies, and an active community of translators, writers, editors, designers, and illustrators rooted in Northeast India, we are creating the infrastructure this region's literary culture has long needed — and the opportunities its most passionate creative minds deserve.

Xako Publication is a subsidiary of The Antonym Collections, Kolkata, a publishing house recognized for its contribution to literary translation in India, with titles longlisted and shortlisted for various awards. While rooted in this larger mission, Xako operates with full creative autonomy, with an exclusive and dedicated focus on the Northeastern region.

We are looking to connect with publishers, literary translators, rights professionals, booksellers, librarians, cultural organizations, grant bodies, and anyone who believes that the geography of great literature extends far beyond the cities that usually define it.
