Mark E. Mitchell is an accomplished academic and entrepreneur with extensive experience in ecology and environmental sciences. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Xavier University since August 2024, Mitchell also co-founded Intersect Agriculture in August 2021, a startup focused on upcycling food waste into animal feed products to reduce environmental impact. Prior experience includes a role as an ORISE Postdoctoral Researcher at the US Environmental Protection Agency from July 2020 to August 2024, where Mitchell assessed ecosystem services and crop production in agricultural systems. Previous academic positions include Assistant Professor of Ecology at Heidelberg University and visiting roles at the University of Cincinnati and SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, with research expertise in green roofs and ecosystem ecology. Mitchell holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Cincinnati, as well as a Master’s in Biology from Loyola University Chicago and dual Bachelor's degrees in Zoology and Life Science Education from Miami University.
