James Young, PG, STS

James Young, PG, STS has over 30 years of experience in the environmental and software industry. James began their career in 1991 as Cofounder and Program/Project Manager for Terraine, Inc. where they managed various software development and environmental consulting contracts. In 2012, they cofounded Provalent Solutions, LLC, where they conceptualized, designed, and product managed a fully electronic cradle-to-grave environmental chain-of-custody system. In 2013, they cofounded Legal Software Solutions LLC (aka BernieSez), where they served as chief architect of software system, database schema, app flow logic, and user interface screen designs. In 2016, they cofounded the EnviroTech Summit, an annual conference focused on encouraging and highlighting the use of modern technology in environmental use cases. In 2017, they cofounded XForms, LLC, a modern field data collection forms software platform. In 2019, they became a Senior Project Manager/Geologist at Mid-Atlantic Associates, where they managed multiple petroleum-hydrocarbon sites and spearheaded the digital transformation of the firm. Currently, they are a Program Manager at NewSouth Technologies, Inc., where they are responsible for managing the Permitting Transformation Program (PTP) for the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ).

James Young has a long history of education. James attended Culver Military Academy and obtained their high school diploma in 1982. James then attended Texas A&M University where they earned a BS in Geology in 1986. In 1988, they earned a MIBS from the Darla Moore School of Business with a field of study in Master of International Business Studies. Finally, in 1991 they earned a MEM from Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, with a field of study in Environmental Management - Resource Economics and Policy. In addition to their academic qualifications, Young has also obtained several professional certifications, including Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals in 2018, Professional Geologist from various states in the US, and Registered Environmental Manager from the National Registry of Environmental Professionals.
