Duncan Mallace has over 30 years of experience in the survey industry, with a focus on maritime and hydrographic services. Duncan is currently working at XOCEAN as the Chief Scientific Officer, responsible for strategic planning and scientific oversight. Prior to that, they held the position of Chief Strategy Officer at XOCEAN.
Before joining XOCEAN, Duncan Mallace founded and served as the Managing Director of 4D Ocean, a survey company specializing in autonomous survey services using ASVs, UAVs, and AUVs. During their tenure, they led the company's growth and expertise in hydrographic survey, coastal survey, pipeline and cable inspection, and habitat surveys.
From 2011 to 2017, Duncan Mallace was the Head of Business Development at QPS B.V., a leading software company specializing in maritime geospatial data. Duncan played a key role in sales and product development, contributing to the company's expansion in the Netherlands, USA, Canada, and the UK.
In 2011, they also became the Managing Director of MMT UK, a marine survey company, where they focused on developing services in the UK/Europe Oil & Gas, Cables, Renewables, and Government sectors. NetSurvey merged with MMT, and Duncan Mallace led the UK office until 2015.
Prior to these roles, Duncan Mallace served as the Managing Director of IVS 3D Limited's EMEA office from 2007 to 2011, overseeing operations, sales, support, product distribution, and training. Duncan also founded and managed NetSurvey Limited, specializing in multibeam echosounder technology and its applications, from 2002 to 2011.
Duncan Mallace started their career as a Freelance Hydrographic Surveyor at NetSurvey Limited, then worked as a Senior Surveyor at Oceanscan Limited. Duncan began their professional journey as a Land Surveyor at Mason Land Surveys in 1988.
Duncan has a wealth of experience in operations, personnel management, project management, and overall business activities. Throughout their career, Duncan Mallace has demonstrated expertise in the survey industry, shaping the growth and development of various companies and contributing to the advancement of maritime geospatial data technologies.
Duncan Mallace obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Surveying Science & Geography from Newcastle University, where they attended from 1985 to 1988.
