James L. Applegate

Jim’s career in higher education and philanthropy focuses on developing policies and practices to increase college success, especially for underserved groups. He is a Visiting Professor in the Center for the Study of Education Policy at Illinois State University. He was Executive Director for the Illinois Board of Higher Education. He also served as Senior Vice President and head of grant making for the Lumina Foundation and as chief academic officer for the state of Kentucky. Jim was a professor and department chair at the University of Kentucky.
