David Boswell

Senior Director Of Community Architecture at Yocto Project

David Boswell has a diverse and extensive work experience in community architecture, ecosystem development, and community consulting. David has held senior positions at organizations such as The Linux Foundation, where they currently serve as the Senior Director of Community Architecture. In this role, they focus on community growth and health, analyzing metrics and developing strategies to address concerns. Prior to that, they were the Director of Ecosystem at The Linux Foundation, where they doubled the number of Hyperledger meetup groups, increased meetup members to over 75,000, and supported community members running projects and groups.

Previously, David served as the Director of Community at the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), where they played a key role in scaling up the ONOS community and launching the CORD project. David also developed strategies to rally and align community members around organizational goals. At UI LABS, they worked as a Community Consultant, creating a community strategy for the Digital Manufacturing Commons (DMC) open source project.

David's experience in community building extends to their time at Mozilla, where they were the Head of Community Building. David led a team focused on connecting volunteers to teams, recognizing their contributions, and creating training materials. Before Mozilla, they co-founded the Mozdev Community Organization, a non-profit organization supporting open source developers. As a founder and board member, they directed its operation, set strategic goals, handled finances, and pursued fundraising opportunities.

David also has consultancy experience, having worked at NASA Ames Research Center, where they created a proposal for an online development community for NASA's open source software. In addition, they have experience in technical project management, having worked at Grey Interactive and CollabNet, where they managed the creation of web-based marketing material and online software development communities for various clients.

Prior to their career in community architecture and project management, David worked at Alphanumerica as a New Technology Producer, building websites and web-based applications, coordinating with clients and supervising employees.

Overall, David Boswell's work experience demonstrates their expertise and success in driving community growth, fostering collaboration, and developing strategies to support open source projects and organizations.

David Boswell obtained a Bachelor's degree in Latin and History from The University of Texas at Austin in the years 1992 to 1996. Furthermore, they pursued further education and completed a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Environmental Policy Studies at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) from 2005 to 2007. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained a certification as a speaker at the Hyperledger Global Forum Europe 2022 from The Linux Foundation in October 2022.
