Michael Dolan began their work experience in 2004 with an internship at IBM, specifically in the Extreme Blue program. Michael later joined IBM as a Marketing Manager for Linux Competitive Strategy in 2005. In 2006, they became the Cross-IBM Linux Strategy Manager, and in 2008, they transitioned to the role of Principal Analyst in Competitive Intelligence. From 2010 to 2013, they served as the Manager of Market Insights and Competitive Intelligence at IBM. From 2013 onwards, Dolan joined The Linux Foundation as the SVP and GM of Projects, leading their projects team and legal programs, and helping to create and grow ecosystems around open technologies such as the Hyperledger blockchain ecosystem, LF AI & Data, and OpenJS Foundation.

Michael Dolan has a diverse education history. Michael obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics from John Carroll University in 1999. Michael then pursued a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree at Cleveland State University - Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, specializing in Intellectual Property Law and Corporate Law, which they completed in 2002. Additionally, Michael earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University from 2002 to 2004, focusing on Marketing, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship.
