Systems Operations Engineer at Yocto Project

Ryan Day has a diverse work experience that spans over several industries and roles. Ryan began their career as a Senior System Programmer at Intel Corporation, where they maintained AIX servers and designed web pages. Ryan then worked as a Lead System Administrator at Oregon Graduate Institute, where they maintained Unix servers and advised researchers on security projects.

Following that, Ryan served as a Unix System Administrator at Harvard School of Public Health and was responsible for maintaining Solaris servers. Ryan also worked as the Manager of Web Technology at The Christian Science Monitor, where they provided technical expertise for an international news website and designed an XML-based publishing system.

Ryan also gained experience as a Network Tester at Synergy Seven, an independent Java Contractor, and a Software Engineer at Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. At USGS, they worked as an IT Specialist, developing software for seismic and strainmeter data analysis using Java.

Prior to their current role, Ryan served as a Senior Reliability Engineer at NWEA, analyzing application and infrastructure states, coordinating emergency responses, and implementing solutions to prevent reoccurrences.

Currently, Ryan works at The Linux Foundation as a Systems Operations Engineer, performing systems administration and programming duties on servers hosted worldwide. Ryan provides documentation, support, and conducts audits and best practice reviews.

Ryan Day attended Principia College from 1983 to 1987, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science. In addition to their degree, Ryan has also earned several certifications. In 2000 and 2012, they became a Redhat Certified Engineer (RHCE). In 2014, they obtained the Certified System Administrator certification from The Linux Foundation. Most recently, in 2015, they became a Puppet Certified Professional from Puppet Labs, Inc.
