Alex M. Smith is a seasoned software engineer with a robust background in aerospace technologies and advanced aerial mobility systems. Currently serving as a Software Engineer and Co-Founder at Aetheric B.V. since March 2024, Alex specializes in open-source software development, utilizing technologies such as Rust, PostgreSQL, and REST API. Contributions to Arrow involve enhancing open-source aerospace technology, building upon previous experience at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Flight Software Engineer II, where responsibilities included developing and integrating flight software for the Europa Clipper mission. Earlier roles at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems focused on embedded software development and system-level testing. Alex holds a Master of Science in Systems and Control from Eindhoven University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from UC San Diego.

Yonder Dynamics is a student robotics organization at UC San Diego formally established in Fall 2016. As our primary project, we designed and built an autonomous Mars rover for the annual University Rover Challenge (URC), a prestigious international competition for college students.
