Sean Summers is currently an advisor at Counterpart. Prior to that, they were a visiting researcher at UCSF, where they were one of the first scientists to successfully use real-time data, predictive intelligence, and actuation (light) to precisely control the abundance of protein in a population of living yeast cells. Sean has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, where they ran and coordinated a pilot project on adaptive learning and balanced curation. Sean has also worked as a visiting researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where they built an autonomous multi-mode robot for use in undesirable situations - from concept to patent to development. Lastly, Sean has also worked as a control engineer at Northrop Grumman Corporation.
Sean Summers has a Doctor of Philosophy in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering from ETH Zürich, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UC San Diego, and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from UC San Diego.
