Jonathan Murray has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Jonathan started their career as a Graduate Trainee at Total Oil Great Britain Ltd in 1983, where they held various roles and responsibilities, including providing management reports and analyzing operating performance. From 1989 to 1991, they worked as an Economist at PRS Consulting International Ltd, providing economic analysis for the automotive and related industries.

In 1991, Jonathan joined MIRA Ltd, where they established a new business unit and managed teams to research, write, produce, and market market analysis reports for specific technologies. Jonathan then moved on to JATO Dynamics in 1992, where they served as the Head of Forecasting, managing a team and developing software products for competitor analysis in the automotive industry.

In 1995, Jonathan joined the Energy Saving Trust as a Director, where they played a key role in establishing the trust's transport activity. Jonathan developed the strategy for the trust's transport division, secured funding and support from the government, and developed relationships with partners such as vehicle manufacturers and fuel suppliers.

In 2003, Jonathan, along with two partners, established Sustainable Transport Solutions Ltd (STS) as a limited company to provide consultancy advice and services relating to transport and the environment. STS worked with government departments, local authorities, and corporate clients, providing consultancy services and working with a wide group of associate consultants.

Currently, Jonathan serves as the Policy and Operations Director at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, a role they have held since 2005. Jonathan works closely with government departments and members to formulate policy objectives and ensure the work program reflects those objectives. Jonathan also disseminates the outputs of the partnership's work program to policy makers and stakeholders.

Jonathan Murray earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Queen Mary University of London between 1986 and 1989. Jonathan later pursued a Master of Science degree in Business and Economics at Kingston University from 1990 to 1992.
