Michiel Smit is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in business development and project engineering across the energy and terminal sectors. Currently serving as Business Development Manager at Zero Emission Services since October 2022, Michiel previously held various roles at Vopak, including Internal Customer Operations and Project Engineer, where responsibilities included leading Operations on Sustaining Capex Projects and acting as a focal point for business development efforts. Michiel's earlier positions include project engineering roles at Koole Terminals and Shell, as well as an engineering internship at Heerema Marine Contractors. Michiel holds a Master's Degree in Offshore and Dredging Engineering and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, as well as a Master's Degree in Management, Technology, and Economics from ETH Zürich.

Zero Emission Services
ZES introduces a new energy system for making inland shipping more sustainable. ZES will realize this with emission-free navigation infrastructure that is acccessible to all parties involved. Clean, climate-neutral and ready to compete with fossil fuels. ZES offers a complete range of products and services, based on interchangeable battery containers charged with renewable power, charging stations, technical support and an innovative payment concept for ship owners. The shares of ZES are held by four companies: supplier of emission-free transportation ecosystems Ebusco, ING, maritime technology company Wärtsilä and the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management is supporting this initiative together with the Province of South Holland.
