Gareth Coates has extensive experience in the field of engineering, particularly in the development and integration of fuel cell systems. Gareth currently holds the position of Head of Power Generation Systems - LTPEM at ZeroAvia, where they are responsible for formulating the company's LTPEM power module development strategy. Prior to this, Gareth worked as a Technical Specialist - Fuel Cell Systems at Changan UK R&D Centre Limited and as Chief Engineer at Hypermotive, where they managed and delivered various electrification and power distribution projects. Gareth also served as a Principal Mechanical Engineer / Principal Systems Engineer at Intelligent Energy, working on PEM fuel cells and gaining experience in multiple application areas. Gareth's work history also includes roles at Ricardo, Loughborough University, JCB, and TRaC, where they gained valuable experience in engineering research and diesel engine development.
Gareth Coates completed their education at different institutions over the years. Starting with their high school education from 1997 to 1999 at Bartley Boys Grammar School, where they focused on subjects like Computing, Maths, and Physics. Gareth then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Product Design and Manufacturing from Loughborough University, graduating in 2004. Later, Gareth went on to complete their Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Sustainable Manufacturing at the same university, finishing in 2009.
