Patrick Howard

Software Engineer at ZevRoss Spatial Analysis

Patrick Howard is currently a software engineer at ZevRoss Spatial Analysis. Prior to this, they worked as a senior software engineer at Tychobra from June 2019 to May 2022, where they developed OSS/PaaS for R programmers & R/Shiny developers, handled the application development life-cycle for multiple clients from a range of professional fields, and created & improved upon automated tasks (CRON jobs, continuous deployment, unit testing).

Before working at Tychobra, Patrick was a graduate student researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology from August 2018 to June 2019. There, they conducted machine learning for stratification of Crohn’s Disease by implementing Bayesian nonnegative matrix factorization on variant-trait associations of genomic and clinical patient data to assess disease subtypes & risk. Patrick also created a web application with R Shiny called the Accurator, a tool to help the user evaluate the influence of genetic risk scores on the prediction of outcomes. The Accurator contains an Accuracy tool and a Relative Risk tool. Lastly, they assisted with the UI and functionality of a Ph.D. student’s web application and database for viewing this student’s expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) data and the corresponding LocuzZoom plots, completed for their thesis.

Patrick Howard began their educational career by attending The Westminster Schools. Patrick then went on to study at The University of Georgia, where they received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering. Finally, they attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they received a Professional Master of Science in Bioinformatics.

They are on a team with Chris Marx - Senior Software Engineer, Sandy Haaf - Operations Manager, and John Shukle - Data Analyst & Software Engineer. Their manager is Zev Ross, Founder & President.
