Steve Cheng has extensive experience in software engineering, specializing in firmware and embedded systems. Currently serving as a Tech Lead/Sr Software Engineer at Zoox since December 2018, Cheng focuses on firmware development for autonomous driving technologies. Prior to this, Cheng contributed to autonomous driving software at a stealth mode AI startup and was a Sr Software Engineer at Neato Robotics, where notable achievements included designing a cloud API for robotic systems and addressing hardware driver issues. Cheng held significant managerial roles at Cisco, overseeing software development for multiple operating systems and leading teams in feature development for data center switches and routers. Early career experiences included foundational roles at CopaCast, Allied Telesyn, Centillium Communications, and Tasman Networks. Cheng holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a Master’s in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Utah State University.
