Starting August 11, Headspace will have a new Chief Technology Officer, Intuit veteran Krithika Swaminathan.

Swaminathan will report directly to CEO CeCe Morken, another ex-Intuit executive, and be in charge of a cross-functional team and lead the mindfulness and meditation company’s technology roadmap and innovation to help accelerate the company’s mission of improving the health and happiness of the world.

In the company's announcement, Morken highlighted Swaminathan deep background in SaaS, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning and said, “As Headspace excellerates and grows as the leading mental health resource around the globe, we have confidence that Krithika will lead our world-class technology organization to new heights.”

Swaminathan brings years of tech experience, most recently with Intuit, where she was the VP for Artificial Intelligence. She also served as the company’s VP of Platform Engineering for the Consumer Group and the VP of Site Reliability, Security and Quality Engineering. Before her tenure at Intuit, she spent six years at Borland Software Corporation, where she was a Senior Director of Engineering Services.

“Of all the possibilities to have landed in my lap, I find it most serendipitous that I should come across Headspace: a company that specializes in the life-changing practice of mindfulness and meditation,” Swaminathan said. “My own practice began 16 years ago, when one of my family members received a serious medical diagnosis. Finding a way through is arduous for anyone, but I found mine through meditation.”

The use of mindfulness and meditation apps has been on the rise in recent years and adoption of the platforms has only accelerated since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Swaminathan's new role will be critical to help Headspace continue to innovate its app and further differentiate its services from competitors like Calm as it seeks to carve out a larger marketshare.
