27-year-old Margaret Zhang is the New Editor in Chief of Vogue China

27-year-old Margaret Zhang is the new editor in chief at Vogue China. Born to immigrant parents in Sydney, Australia, Zhang will be the youngest EIC at Vogue. She will be replacing Angelica Cheung, who has been with the magazine for 16 years.

“I am so delighted that Margaret is our new editor in chief of Vogue China. Her international experience, exceptional multiplatform digital expertise, and wide-ranging interests are the perfect combination to lead Vogue China into the future,” Anna Wintour, Vogue editor in chief and global editorial director and Condé Nast global chief content officer said in a press release.

Zhang first dabbled in fashion at 16 years old, where she started her blog, Shine by Three. Since then she has become a staple in the front row of fashion shows and boasts 1.1 million followers on Instagram. She produced and appeared in two digital covers for Vogue me China in 2016, and has co-founded a global consultancy company, Background, where she works with companies such as Airbnb, Youtube and Moncler to bridge western and Chinese cultures.

“Margaret understands the emerging trends of a new generation of Chinese and possesses the business acumen needed to leverage our data and insights across new digital platforms. We welcome her creativity and innovation in defining new media approaches and look forward to her bringing global fashion to China while taking Chinese culture to the rest of the world,” Li Li, managing director of Condé Nast China, said.
