The Org has identified a list of 50 Gen Z founders to keep an eye out for in 2022.
Gen Z, born between the mid-90s and early 2010s and representing just over 20% of the U.S. population, is known to be technologically savvy and more racially and ethnically diverse than other generations.
As the oldest cohort of Gen Zers enters their mid-twenties, a new wave of entrepreneurs is rising. Unlike previous generations, Gen Z has grown up with the internet, and has the ability to seamlessly build online relationships and adapt to new technologies by learning new skills.
One such example is 18-year-old Scott Hiett, a self-taught coder who has already raised $2.3 million for his eSports payment platform, Edge. Hiett learned to code with the help of YouTube tutorials and has been programming since the age of seven.
Edge is not Hiett’s first business venture. He previously founded MusicPals, an anonymous social networking app that uses Spotify data to match users, which he coded in just three days over his Christmas break in 2020. After sharing his app on TikTok on December 27, 2020, thousands of people rushed to download the MusicPal app. It currently has over one million users and four million matches.
Hiett is also the Lead Developer for SimSync, a software that allows users to play The Sims 4 online with friends.
Gen Z entrepreneurs are also hoping to use their talents to help their peers make smarter investment decisions. Allan Maman, Sonny Mo and Sam Yang dropped out of Brown University to create Bloom, a Y Combinator-backed investment and educational platform for teenagers, after struggling to find existing resources to help teenagers make smart financial decisions.
There are currently more than 35,000 teenagers on the waitlist to use Bloom and the app expects to have more than one million users by the end of 2022.
These are just two of the Gen Z entrepreneurs making waves in the startup space. The Org has identified a list of 50 Gen Z founders to keep an eye out for this year.
