Apple has named Stella Low as its next VP of Worldwide Corporate Communications, a role that had been vacant since Steve Dowling left the company in 2019.
In her new role at the Cupertino-based tech giant, Low will report directly to CEO Tim Cook and will lead both external communications and public relations.
Apple confirmed the hire to Buzzfeed News, stating, “Stella brings her remarkable experience and leadership to Apple’s world-class communications teams. Apple has an important story to tell — from the transformative products and services we make, to the positive impacts we have on our communities and the world — and Stella is a great leader to help us write the next chapter.”
Low comes to Apple from Cisco, where she most recently served as the tech company’s SVP and Chief Communications Officer. Throughout her 30-year career she has also held senior communications jobs at Dell Technologies and Unisys.
In a statement, Cisco said, “Stella Low has been an invaluable member of our team for the past two years. We thank her for all she has done for Cisco and wish her great success in the future.”
Low joins Apple at a difficult time s the company is under public scrutiny over its app store policies. In August 2020, gaming company Epic Games filed a lawsuit alleging Apple engages in anticompetative practices. The company also received flak for permitting controversial social media app Parler to rejoin the app store.
