AT&T has promoted Jason Porter as the new leader of the telecom’s Public Sector and FirstNet teams.
As President of Public Sector and FirstNet, Porter will oversee AT&T’s organizations dedicated to government solutions and all federal, state, and local government and education customers. In his new role, he will continue to lead the company’s FirstNet business, which is part of a public-private partnership that provides first responders with advanced communications capabilities, according to a company press release.
Prior to taking on the top public sector leadership slot at AT&T, Porter held numerous leadership roles across the company’s Chief Data Office, network and technology planning, and cybersecurity divisions. While at AT&T Porter has created a successful track record of introducing and maturing emerging technologies, transforming businesses, and serving our customers. Before joining AT&T, the West Point and Regis University graduate served in the US Army as an Armor Officer, leading a tank platoon and a mortar platoon.
AT&T’s FirstNet now covers over 2.71 million square miles and supports more than 2 million connections. In 2020, the carrier added nearly 100,000 square miles of coverage to FirstNet and received requests from 750 new organizations. The service now serves more than 15,000 organizations across the US.
