Clubhouse is expanding its team with the hire of Maya Watson as its new Head of Global Marketing. Watson comes from Netflix, where she spent the last four years working as a director of editorial and publishing.
Watson joins a small, but mighty team of 10 at Clubhouse, whose popularity has just exploded. At the beginning of February, the app had 3.5 million global downloads, according to App Annie. By the end of the month, CEO Paul Davison announced in a town hall that the number had grown to 10 million, with two million active daily users.
Right now the app is still only available on iOS and has a waitlist for users to join, but Watson’s hire signals the app is looking to market outside the club.
Before she led the editorial and publishing teams at Netflix, Watson also ran social media for the entertainment company. She got her start in production through Oprah Winfrey’s media networks, interning at Harpo Productions in 2007 and working her way up to director of marketing and social media. Watson later served as VP of Marketing and Social Media for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.
Her appointment was made during a Sunday town hall hosted by Davison and his co-founder Rohan Seth, where they also unveiled its new creator accelerator program, Clubhouse Creator First. The new program will give aspiring creators tools to support and equip them to host conversations, build their audience, and monetize.
