Cornelius Boone has been named as eBay’s new SVP and Chief People Officer. The online marketplace announced the hiring on Wednesday afternoon alongside the news that its current HR chief, Kristin Yetto, had agreed to step down from her role. Yetto will stay with eBay through March 16, 2021 to support the transition.

When Boone begins his new role on February 1, he will report directly to CEO Jamie Iannone and be responsible for all aspects of eBay’s human resources department, from talent development and acquisition to compensation, benefits, and people tools and technologies. He will also direct the e-commerce hub’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team and initiatives.

Initially starting his career as an employment lawyer, Boone made the switch to the HR field in 2010 as a Senior Human Resources Manager for Health and Wellness at Walmart. He climbed the retail giant’s HR career ladder and by the time he left the company in 2018 he was the VP of Human Resources in charge of Store Operations Talent Management for 1.2 million Walmart associates. Most recently, Boone served as VP of Human Resources for American Airlines, where he was responsible for leading and implementing transformational change in all facets of the airline’s people organization, including DEI initiatives.

In a press release, Iannone, who knew Boone from his time at Walmart, said he was impressed by his enthusiasm and strong leadership acumen as well as his combination of technology, e-commerce, operations, logistics, and employment law experience. Iannone stated, “I’m confident that Cornelius will integrate seamlessly with our strong and talented executive leadership team.”

“I am thrilled to join the eBay team,” Boone said. “eBay has one of the strongest, purpose-driven, cultures I’ve encountered and their desire and drive to create economic opportunity for all is truly an inspiration.”
