Former Boeing CEO Joins Boom Supersonic’s Board

Boom Supersonic has made a key addition as it races to build the world's fastest and most sustainable commercial airliner, with the appointment of Phil Condit to the Boom Advisory Council.

Alongside the news of Condit’s addition, Boom also announced that Tim Brown, the Executive Chair of design firm IDEO, would also join the council, which is meant to provide strategic advice to the company from a variety of perspectives.

Condit spent over 35 years at Boeing including seven as the company’s CEO. where he helped transform the company into a broad-based, global enterprise. During his tenure at the top of the aerospace behemoth, Condit led the acquisition of McDonnell Douglas and more than doubled the company’s revenue before stepping down in 2003 following a controversy. Condit also held leadership roles on the 747 and 757 programs and led the team that launched the 777.

In a press release, the company wrote that Condit's end-to-end experience delivering large commercial airplanes will help solidify Boom's lead in civil supersonic aviation as it draws closer to manufacturing its Overture commercial airliner. The 65- to 88-seat jet is slated to roll out in 2025 and begin commercial flights by 2029.

“The potential of faster flight is an exciting next step in civil aviation, Condit said. “I was drawn to Boom by the significant progress the team has already made in developing a sustainable supersonic airliner. Boom's team has the technical depth and know-how to deliver on its vision, and I'm excited to have another opportunity to help make aviation history."

Boom’s supersonic airliner has already racked up preorders from major airlines like Japan Airlines and Virgin Group. The company has even won a U.S. Air Force contract to develop a jet to transport high-ranking government officials, and potentially even serve as Air Force One.
