Fundraising platform GoFundMe has revealed that Juan Benitez joined the company at the beginning of the month as its new President. He is the newest member of the company’s executive team and will report to CEO Tim Cadogan.
In this role, Benitez will further develop and scale GoFundMe’s payments, engineering, product, and partnerships functions to meet a surge in its platform’s use. In September, the company announced that more that $625 million was raised on its platform in a six-month period for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before GoFundMe, Benitez was the General Manager of Braintree and a key leader responsible for growing the company from a small start-up to a global payments platform that is now owned by PayPal. Prior to Braintree, the Carnegie Mellon grad spent nine years in various capacities at Yahoo!, including VP of Engineering of the Advertising Products Group and VP of Search Advertising.
Cadogan stated that Benitez’s “rare mix of skills and experiences coupled with his strong sense of empathy will be invaluable as we work to enhance the current fundraising experience, build new products, and connect people worldwide to the help they seek.”
Talking about what attracted him to the opporunity, Benitez said, “GoFundMe provides a unique opportunity for me to combine my professional experience with my interest in leveraging technology for good. I'm absolutely delighted to join a world-class team driven by the desire to help others and expand the possibilities for giving as GoFundMe enters a new chapter.”
