Google Names Halimah DeLaine Prado as its New General Counsel

Google has named 14-year company veteran Halimah DeLaine Prado as its new General Counsel, effective immediately.

She will take over day-to-day oversight of the company's legal team from Kent Walker, who has kept the General Counsel role since he was promoted to a broader position in 2018.

The promotion makes DeLaine Prado one of Google’s highest-ranking Black executives at the company.

DeLaine Prado will report directly to Walker, who now serves as SVP of Global Public Affairs, where he leads Google's policy and legal teams worldwide.

In a statement to The The Org, Walker said DeLaine Prado is "uniquely qualified to lead the Legal Department at this critical moment, and I look forward to working with her as we enter this next chapter.”

Currently, US regulators are investigating Google for potential antitrust violations, and a lawsuit is expected at some point this year.

Previously, DeLaine Prado served as a VP of Legal for the company’s product team, where she ran the global team handling legal for Google products including ads, search and YouTube.

“Google has been my home for nearly 14 years, allowing me to work on some of the most complex and important legal issues of the digital age with a world-class legal team. I am excited for this new opportunity and I cannot wait to get started,” commented DeLaine Prado.

A graduate of Yale University and Georgetown Law, DeLaine Prado has worked at Google since 2006, and prior to that practiced media law and products liability law at Dechert LLP.
