Honda, Japan’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, will name Toshihiro Mibe, president of research and development, as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mibe will replace Takahiro Hachigo, who has been CEO at Honda since June 2015. Hachigo will remain with the company as a board member and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Seiji Kuraishi will remain in his position to support Mibe’s transition into his new role.

The Japanese automaker released a statement today confirming that Mibe's appointment will be affective on April 1st.

Mibe has been with Honda since 1987, taking on multiple roles across the company. He has been heavily involved in engine development and managed powertrain and drivetrain operations. Named Operating Officer in 2014, then President of Research and Development in 2019, Mibe is currently in charge of intellectual property and standardization and has pushed forward important structural reforms in the research arm of the company.
