Intel Corp. has hired Archana Deskus as its new chief information officer to oversee the chip maker’s global information technology operations. She commences her CIO role on January 30 and will report to Intel CFO George Davis, who joined the company from Qualcomm last April.

Deskus succeeds Aziz Safa, VP of information technology, who became interim CIO after Paula Tolliver left last fall after just over three years with the company. Tolliver joined Intel as CIO after 20 years at Dow Chemical, and was part of a drive by the company to hire executive talent from outside the company after a long history of promoting from within its own ranks.

Intel hired Deskus from Hewlett Packard Enterprise where she was senior vice president and CIO since 2017 with responsibility for HPE’s global IT operations. At HPE, Deskus oversaw the company’s NextGen IT initiative which involved a massive restructuring of its internal IT systems. Prior to joining HPE, Deskus held CIO roles at Baker Hughs, Ingersoll-Rand, and Timex Group.

Deskus joins Intel at a time when the company is undergoing a digital transformation into a data-centric company implementing AI, advanced analytics and machine learning.
