L Brands has appointed J.K. Symancyk to its Board of Directors as an independent member, effective immediately. The move means the board of the parent company of Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works now consists of 11 members, including 6 women.

The company plans to leverage Symancyk’s broad industry knowledge to help guide L Brands as it completes the planned separation of Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret as well as its future growth.

“We are pleased to welcome J.K. to the Board and look forward to benefitting from his deep retail and leadership expertise,” said L Brands’ Board Chair Sarah E. Nash. “J.K. has a proven track record of helping organizations drive profitable growth, while improving operational performance of large, multi-channel consumer businesses.”

Symancyk brings a quarter-century of experience managing complex retail operations and has served as the President and CEO of PetSmart since June 2018. Prior to that, he spent time in leadership roles at Academy Sports + Outdoors, Meijer, and Walmart. Symancyk also serves on boards of PetSmart and Chewy, and as the Chairman of PetSmart Charities.

L Brands is in the midst of a massive leadership transformation as just this year the holding company’s CFO, Stuart Burgdoerfer, and its founder, Leslie Wexler, have both announced they would step down from their respective roles in L Brands’ c-suite and board respectively.
